Department Spotlight: Fine Arts

The BASA Fine Arts department continues to shine with outstanding achievements across all disciplines, showcasing the incredible talent and dedication of our students and staff.

Congratulations to the BASA Band for their remarkable success at Festival in the Parks! The Concert Band earned an Excellent rating, while the Symphonic Band received Superior ratings and was named Best Overall, an incredible accomplishment.

Our visual arts program is also making waves. Skylar Nelson and Ms. DeCocco recently traveled to the Capitol Art Exhibit, where Skylar’s exceptional artwork is proudly displayed. Additionally, Payton Campbell’s artwork has advanced to the Congressional Art Competition, where it will be judged among entries from across the district for a chance to be displayed in the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.

In dance, BASA continues to impress. Our “Dancing with the BASA Stars” event was a huge success. Congratulations to the winners: Ms. Gillanders, Ms. Woodrum, Addi, Michelle, Julia, and Natalie. Nine of our dance students also traveled to Norfolk, Virginia, from March 5–8 to attend the Regional High School Dance Festival. There, they joined over 1,000 dancers and trained in styles including Hip Hop, Jazz, House, Contemporary, Yoga, and Pilates.

Looking ahead, don’t miss the BASA Dance Spring Concert, Dancing Through, on Saturday, May 2nd, with performances at 2 PM and 7 PM in the PAC. Tickets are $5 in advance or $8 at the door.

Our drama department is also preparing for an exciting production of Hadestown Teen Edition on Friday, March 27th and Saturday, March 28th at the Performing Arts Center (PAC). Be sure to support our students and purchase tickets here: https://cur8.com/25097/project/137864

The BASA chorus program is preparing for their upcoming national competition in Gatlinburg, Tennessee this April. Recently, both our trio and quartet earned 1st place at the Region Literary Competition, an outstanding achievement. They also brought joy to our community with Valentine’s Day singing telegrams, performing for three elementary schools, one middle school, a preschool, and a rehab hospital.
Stay tuned for updates on the chorus’s final concert date!

We are incredibly proud of all our BASA Fine Arts students for their hard work, passion, and commitment to excellence. Their achievements continue to inspire our school and community every day.

Message From Mr. T

Spring weather has arrived, and with the rise in temperatures comes the excitement of Blazer activities across our campus. We are in full swing with spring sports, including Baseball, Soccer, Tennis, Track & Field, Golf, and E‑Sports. Our coaches continue to do a wonderful job leading these programs, and our Blazer athletes are competing with great spirit, determination, and strong BASA pride.

Beyond athletics, our students are shining in the arts and academics. They have proudly represented our school at the Barrow County School System Art Showcase, participated in the first‑ever High School Film Festival, and earned “Best Overall Band” honors at the Music in the Parks competition in Orlando, Florida. We are also excited to look ahead to the Drama Department’s upcoming performances of Hadestown: Teen Edition, taking place this Friday and Saturday.

Thank you to all of our teachers, coaches, and club sponsors for your dedication to creating meaningful learning experiences both in and out of the classroom. Additionally, thank you to our students, families, and community for your continued partnership and support.

As BASA families, we value your feedback and would greatly appreciate you taking the time to complete the Georgia Department of Education School Climate Family Survey by clicking the link below or scanning the QR code.

Yours in Education,

Thomas M. Thrailkill
Principal
